The Magic of We

“Read The Magic of We, and your heart will expand with joy.” — Juan Alderete de la Peña, The Mars Volta A heartfelt children's tale describing the beauty of friendship and love. Includes a download card with unreleased music from Grammy-winning musician Ikey Owens! The Magic of We, a children’s picture book by Danielle Anderson-Craig and illustrated by her friend and fellow teacher, Carly Dooling — they teach at the same school! — is a tender tale of blossoming friendship in which two children meet and are transported into a world where the ordinary becomes fantastic and the known becomes surreal as their shared experience creates unlimited imagination and play, creating a magical place that both kids and parents will recognize from their own adventures of finding a kindred spirit. The refrain “Being with you…” reverberates throughout the pages of detailed imagery, lush with color and imagination. The Magic of We is not only for kids, but adults, too — especially music lovers. Exclusive music is featured from Grammy-winning musician Ikey Owens’ solo work. The first book from both Anderson-Craig and Dooling, The Magic of We combines the magic of music and the music of words to describe the amazing feeling of finding someone who “fits” you. “Have you ever met the missing piece to your puzzle? The Magic of We will reaffirm your faith in love.” — Cedric Bixler-Zavala, The Mars Volta and At the Drive-In Authors: Danielle Anderson-Craig Danielle Anderson-Craig has been creating stories, writing poetry, and dancing between realms of whimsy since she was a small child. She is a full-time believer in all things magical and uses her writing to build enchanted fortresses of wonder where fantasy and surreality reign supreme. She graduated from the University of Southern California with an American Studies & Ethnicity/Philosophy degree. In an attempt to spend more time with her goddaughter, she took a job at her play-based preschool as a teacher shortly after college. Realizing her love for teaching, she then rooted herself in the world of the child, returning to school and becoming a highly-skilled Early Childhood Educator, an advocate for young learners, and a resource to families, while also carving out time to conjure up tales for her preschool-aged pals. Her work as an educator of primary school aged children spans over 15 years, with most of her experience in the Montessori environment, teaching in California and throughout southern Thailand. Danielle lives in Berkeley, California, continuing her work as a dreamer, storyteller, traveler, and teacher of young minds. Carly Dooling Carly Dooling is an illustrator based out of Oakland, California. She attended the University of California Santa Cruz and received a BFA in Fine Art, with a focus on lithography and printmaking. Carly began drawing at an early age and has always had an affinity for the magic and wonder involved in childrens’ illustration. To this day, she loves to create fantastical worlds led with imaginative flora and fauna. She remains in awe of the love and devotion involved in the process of creating handmade art. She did all of the line work for The Magic of We in pencil. She has been involved in several group art shows around the Bay Area, and continues to be active in her local art community. Carly currently works as a Montessori Preschool teacher, and is heavily influenced by the day-to-day interactions she has with her students.
