The Harbormaster (1 of 100 Limited Edition)

The Story A vertical profile portrait of a Great Blue Heron perched in a marina, showing detailed shaggy neck plumage against a soft-focus background of white boat hulls and dock structures. The Location The marinas of Southern Maryland are where the wild Chesapeake meets daily life. Great Blue Herons perch on dock pilings as casually as the boats themselves, claiming their territory long before the first engine starts each morning. Artist's Perspective "I approached this shot not as a wildlife photo, but as a formal portrait. I wanted to isolate the bird from the visual clutter of the boats and ropes. By using a long lens and a wide aperture, I was able to render the background into soft distinct shapes, giving the heron the same separation and importance you would expect in a human studio portrait." — Ryan Lott Curator's Recommendation The vertical orientation (portrait cut) makes this piece exceptionally versatile for narrow wall spaces, flanking doorways, or as a statement piece in an entryway.
