THE GOAT DINER & GRILL: A BET, A GOAT AND GOURMET GLORY In the quiet town of Walkerton, Indiana in 1979, James "Jimbo" Murphy was an unassuming postman by day and an enthusiastic, albeit somewhat poor, poker player by night. Every Friday, he and his buddies would gather around the battered poker table in his garage, trading chips and tales of life's adventures. One fateful night, the stakes grew particularly high. Amid the thick haze of cigar smoke, Jimbo found himself pitted against the town’s most enigmatic millionaire, Tobias "Toby" Goldstein. As the night wore on, their hands went from bad to worse, but neither was willing to fold. To up the ante, Toby put forth a peculiar wager. "Jimbo, if you lose, you have to open a diner in that old, rickety spot at the corner of Elm Street," Toby said with a smirk. Jimbo gulped, eyeing the property Toby was pointing out through the window. It was an abandoned and dilapidated building that was once a speakeasy during the prohibition era. Jimbo hesitated but then, with his typical flair for the dramatic, exclaimed, "Fine, but if I win, you have to supply the diner with fresh produce from your farm for an entire year. For free!" Toby raised an eyebrow, "Deal." The cards were laid down. Jimbo's heart sank. Two pair against Toby's straight. The garage fell silent. That night, 'The Goat Diner & Grill' was born, not from passion, but from a poker game gone horribly wrong. As the days turned into weeks, Jimbo, fueled by stubborn pride, set to work refurbishing the old building. The community was abuzz with curiosity. What could the friendly postman possibly know about running a diner? The grand opening arrived, and a line formed outside the diner. But there was one peculiar addition to the diner that none had expected: a goat. Bob, as Jimbo named him, was an unexpected gift from Toby. Bob had a penchant for eating the most bizarre combinations of food, and his antics quickly became a local sensation. The menu at The Goat Diner & Grill was a reflection of Jimbo's inexperience in the culinary world. Offerings like "Postman's Pancakes" (pancakes stuffed with bacon and served with maple syrup) and "Bob's Delight" (a sandwich with a wild combination of ingredients that changed daily based on what Bob fancied) dotted the menu. What no one had expected, however, was the gourmet touch behind each seemingly bizarre dish. Jimbo, it turned out, had an innate knack for combining flavors. The Goat Diner, rather than becoming a laughingstock, quickly became the hottest spot in town. Bob became the diner's mascot and chief taste tester. Every day, he would be seen lounging on the patio, sampling various dishes, and giving them his stamp of approval (or disapproval, which was rare). His unpredictable appetite became the talk of the town, and people flocked to the diner to see what Bob was eating that day. Word spread, and soon, The Goat Diner & Grill was not just a local sensation but a statewide phenomenon. Visitors from all over Michigan, and then the nation, flocked to Walkerton to experience Jimbo's culinary experiments and Bob's antics. As promised, Toby supplied the diner with fresh produce, which Jimbo incorporated into his dishes. The unique collaboration between the two former poker rivals was evident in dishes like "Toby's Treasure Salad," a delightful mix of seasonal vegetables and fruits, served with a dressing that was a closely guarded secret. As years passed, the diner saw expansions and updates. However, Bob's legacy lived on even after he passed away, with a bronze statue in his honor placed right at the entrance. Today, in 2023, The Goat Diner & Grill is not just a diner; it's a testament to serendipity, creativity, and the unforeseeable outcomes of a bad hand in poker. Jimbo, now a septuagenarian, no longer flips pancakes but can be seen entertaining guests with tales of that fateful poker night. In a twist of fate, Jimbo and Toby, once opponents at a poker table, are now inseparable friends, often reminiscing about the hand that changed their lives. As for Walkerton, they couldn't be prouder of their iconic eatery that serves as a reminder that sometimes, a bad hand can lead to the most delicious outcomes. --- Standard shipping for this item is $9.99 *may separate from apparel --- TRAVEL MUG INFO • Made with stainless steel and BPA-free plastic • Capacity: 25 oz (739 ml) • Upper diameter: 3.3″ × 6.9″ (8.4 × 20 cm) • Bottom diameter: 2.7″ × 6.9″ (7 × 20 cm) • Hand-wash only Caution!
