The Edger, by Techniglass, is two cylindrical honing stones inside a plastic grip, and is meant to clean up sharp edges on stained glass. The working area is 3.5 inches long, and the overall tool length (including the handle) is about 3.875 inches. It weighs less than 6 ounces. When to Use This Tool Smoothing Edges If you’re working with large quantities of stained glass, and you want to get rid of razor-sharp edges, this is the tool for you. With only one or two passes you can clean the edges up. This tool can accommodate glass from 1.6mm to 6.4mm thick, which includes all of the stained glass we carry. The notch section on one side of the tool lets you get into the inside of convex curves as well. Safety Dust Avoid breathing construction dusts of any type, especially glass, cement, ceramics, stone, etc. An N95 mask is recommended as a precaution when using The Edger, but we prefer to contain the dust with mist at the source. Keeping the dust wet is an easy was to make sure it stays out of the air. Dispose of the wet dust as solid waste in a trash bag and not down your drains. Safety Glasses Always wear safety glasses with side shields when using The Edger. Make sure that you don’t work glass around people not wearing safety glasses. Flying chips could potentially hit their eyes as easily as yours. Slivers and Surfaces Be aware that cutting and filing glass can produce tiny slivers that are surprisingly sharp. Never sweep off a work surface with your bare hand. This is how most cuts happen in the studio (seriously). Use a vacuum or counter brush instead. Hold The Edger over a trash can or dust collector instead of over your work surface.
