The Drifting Marker (Open Edition)

The Story A single orange and white crab pot buoy floating on calm, rippling water reflecting the pastel pink and purple hues of a twilight sky. The Location Crab pot buoys are as much a part of the Chesapeake's visual identity as the birds and the water. Each one marks a waterman's livelihood beneath the surface — the visible tip of a working Bay that has sustained communities for centuries. Artist's Perspective "This was one of those evenings where the water was so calm it became a mirror for the sky. The single crab pot buoy floating in all that reflected pastel color is as minimal as my work gets. Sometimes one object in the right light is the entire composition." — Ryan Lott Curator's Recommendation The horizontal orientation (landscape cut) makes this piece well-suited for living rooms, offices, and above fireplaces.
