"The Chief" Pullman Suitcase

Made by the Oshkosh Trunk Company (Wisconsin) in the late Twenties or Thirties, this handsomely-striped pullman suitcase brought plenty of bold style to traveling.  The signature striped coloration was called "The Chief" after Chief Oshkosh (1795-1858), leader of the Menominee people (and namesake of the Wisconsin town).  This pattern was first introduced in 1902 for the company's line of steamer trunks and traveling wardrobes.  In 1927, as middle class travelers took to the rails, Oshkosh Trunk began making smaller, more-portable luggage.  The cream-colored interior lining (with three elasticized pockets and tie-down ribbons) is in remarkably good shape, considering the age.  The exterior is also in fine shape.  Four metal feet elevate the suitcase from the ground.  The company closed in 1961.   (25" x 15.5" x 8")   ot13208e c. 1927-1930's
