The Chicago 072 (45mm)

What makes the Chicago 072 unique:  The Chicago 072 is a striking blend of classic design and modern craftsmanship, featuring a pinstriped dial with an elegant vertical texture that catches the light beautifully. Raised gold numerals add warmth and depth, complementing the blued steel hands that sweep across the face with precision. The small seconds subdial, placed at six o’clock, provides a balanced focal point, reinforcing the timeless symmetry of this vintage piece. At its core, this watch is powered by a 17-jewel manual-wind Elgin movement, originally manufactured in 1927. The movement boasts intricate engravings, gold-plated gears, and polished steel components, all visible through the exhibition case back. Jewel settings, often made of brass or gold-plated material, ensure smooth operation while reducing friction. This movement was produced during a pivotal time in American history—1927 saw Charles Lindbergh’s historic solo flight across the Atlantic, a feat of engineering and endurance that mirrors the innovation found in this Elgin timepiece. Encased in machined stainless steel, the Chicago 072 is built for longevity while maintaining a refined aesthetic. The angled polished steel bezel adds a touch of sophistication, while the knurled crown provides easy grip and a tactile connection to its mechanical roots. A navy blue leather strap ties the design together, enhancing the deep blue hues of the hands and reinforcing the watch’s distinct character.
