The Amalia

Two dozen long-stem preserved roses rise from a hand-glazed ceramic vessel patterned after the azulejos of Portugal. We built this piece around the blue and white tiles that wrap whole buildings in Lisbon and Porto — weathered by salt air, yet still luminous. The pattern itself has been traveling for centuries, from Chinese kilns to Portuguese walls to the vase in front of you.
