Serial: The Taylor Prototype 114ce Special Edition Sapele/Sitka is a distinctive variation of Taylor's popular Grand Auditorium acoustic-electric guitar, combining a torrefied spruce top, layered sapele back and sides, and a custom printed top finish. Built around Taylor's versatile 114ce platform, this prototype features C-Class bracing, a comfortable Venetian cutaway, and Taylor ES2 electronics. Its custom Nashburst top treatment gives the instrument a unique appearance, while the natural sapele back and sides maintain the familiar character of the 100 Series. The Grand Auditorium body features a torrefied spruce top paired with layered sapele back and sides, constructed with sapele outer and inner veneers surrounding a poplar core. Torrefaction helps give the spruce top a more developed response, while the layered sapele construction provides stability and a balanced tonal foundation. Taylor's C-Class bracing, constructed from Sitka spruce, is designed to enhance the guitar's low-frequency response and sustain. The top features a custom Nashburst design applied through Taylor's Roland printing process, complemented by black binding, black-and-white purfling, and a three-ring rosette. The neck features Taylor's Standard Carve profile and NT neck joint, providing the familiar playing feel and serviceability associated with Taylor acoustic guitars. The smoked eucalyptus fingerboard has a 15" radius, 20 frets, and 4mm faux-pearl dot inlays. A 25.5" scale length and 1 11/16" NuBone nut provide comfortable string spacing, while the Venetian cutaway allows easier access to the upper frets. Matte finishes across the neck and body contribute to a natural playing feel. Taylor's Expression System 2 electronics use a behind-the-saddle pickup design to capture the guitar's amplified acoustic response. A smoked eucalyptus straight-wing bridge, white Micarta saddle, and black bridge pins complete the string path, while chrome die-cast tuners provide dependable tuning adjustment. Additional appointments include a black pickguard, smoked eucalyptus peghead veneer, and D'Addario XS coated phosphor bronze strings. A tan Taylor soft gig bag is included.
