Swiss Alpenflage M83 Field Jacket

The iconic Swiss Alpenflage M83 field jacket one of the most recognizable camouflage patterns ever issued. Known for its bold mix of reds, browns, greens, and black, Alpenflage was designed specifically for the dense forests and varied terrain of Switzerland. Originally developed during the Cold War, Alpenflage evolved from earlier Swiss camouflage systems with a focus on breaking up the human silhouette at close and medium distances. The unique inclusion of reddish tones wasn’t a mistake it was intended to mimic natural elements like autumn foliage and forest ground cover. Unlike many military patterns that prioritize blending in from a distance, Alpenflage excels at disrupting shape and contrast up close, making it highly effective in wooded environments.
