Pure & PotentConcentrated, undiluted Cosmetic GradeLeave-on approved EBC Base TestedStable in our bases All Bases ReadySoap, lotion, cosmetics Phthalate-FreeClean formulation ◈ Sweet Decay Fragrance Oil What it smells like and what it does in a base Glossy black cherry over damp earth and fallen leaves. On paper it should not work — bright candy fruit sitting on a mossy, ambery floor is a collision, not a blend — but the cherry is what keeps the dark half from going grim, and the earth is what stops the cherry from reading as cough syrup. It is the only gourmand in this collection, and the easiest sell to a customer who wants something seasonal without wanting something gothic. Cherry is the note to plan around. Cherry accords are among the more volatile things to formulate with — they can fade faster than the base they sit on, and they commonly morph at high pH, which is very likely why this one is rated not suitable for cold process soap. In leave-on and melt-and-pour it holds. At ~5% vanillin expect a white base to warm over months. Formulator’s shorthand: the commercial one. If you are building a Halloween line and need a single product that sells to someone who does not want to smell like a graveyard, this is it. Part of a collection Midnight Botanica Seven scents from a garden that only opens after dark — heavy florals, damp earth, and the things that grow over stone. Sweet Decay is the fruit gone over: the one sweet thing in the set, and the brightest entry point. Melt & Pour Soap Melt & pour is fine even though cold process is not. A deep red or black base sells the candy-rot idea. Lotions & Creams Rich enough to hold the cherry past the top note. Use a Vanilla Stabilizer to keep a true white. ⚗ Behavior in base The four things that go wrong, and whether they will here Discoloration Expected — gradual ~5% vanillin. A white base warms over months. Use a Vanilla Stabilizer, or lean in with a red, amber or black base — the theme suits it. Flashpoint 200 °F / 93 °C High. Melt & pour poured at 140 °F leaves a wide margin. Still add as late as you can — the cherry lives in the top notes. Cold process soap Not suitable Tested and ruled out. Cherry accords commonly morph or vanish at high pH, which is the usual reason. Melt & pour is unaffected. Candles & wax Not suitable Formulated for skin, not wax. No burn testing performed. % How much to use Two different limits apply. Always use the lower one. Email hello@essentialsbycatalina.com and we will send the current figures from our supplier’s documentation. Ours are concentrated, pure, undiluted and cosmetic grade. A concentrated oil means a lower fragrance load per batch — a little goes a long way, and your cost per unit drops even when the per-ounce price does not. We strongly advise sampling before committing to larger quantities so you can evaluate performance, compatibility and safety in your own formulation. Keep all products out of children’s reach.
