2027 Susan's Spicy Sparkle

Nelumbo nucifera   Flower Color: Brilliant Red Plant Height: Tall, 48” and taller Flower Type: Multi-Petal, more than 50 petals  Pot Size: 16” and wider, 10”-18” deep Susan’s Spicy Sparkle is a dramatic, luxurious lotus with a presence that is impossible to overlook. The intense, saturated dark red to hot magenta-red coloration gives the entire bloom an almost jewel-like brilliance. The flower is full, with many layers of pointed petals radiating outward from the center. The outer petals are broad and boldly shaped, while the inner petals become progressively smaller, more numerous, and wonderfully ruffled. Toward the center, the petals curl and twist into an intricate, almost carnation-like formation. At the heart of the flower is a brilliant golden-yellow receptacle, surrounded by a delicate ring of pearl-like stamens. Against the deep red petals, that glowing center creates a spectacular contrast. The name “Susan’s Spicy Sparkle” suits it beautifully. There is something fiery about the coloration—the flower seems to glow with hot pink, crimson, and deep red tones, especially when sunlight catches the finely veined petals. Plus, it is named after one of our favorite people whose sweet smile and great laugh keep us sparkly all the time! And one of its most appealing qualities is its generous blooming habit. Despite producing such an elaborate, substantial flower, Susan’s Spicy Sparkle is known for blooming frequently, making it a wonderful choice for anyone who wants a lotus that provides repeated displays throughout the season. As you can see from the pictures the sunlight can make the flower appear to change colors!
