Surrender | Jesus Weeping, John 11:35 | Christian Wall Art by Mark Mabry

About Surrender A note from Mark Mabry "Jesus wept." (John 11:35) The shortest verse in the Bible. The image holds the moment that verse describes. Jesus on the right in a white robe, a woman in white whose face is buried against His shoulder. His own face is visible, brow furrowed, weeping with her. The stone wall behind them is weathered gray-tan. It is daylight and color, the moment as it happened. JESUS WEPT. Mary's brother had just died. Jesus had not arrived in time, and Mary said so. "Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died" (John 11:32). He could have explained the timing. He cried with her instead. The miracle came later. Lazarus walked out of the tomb a few verses on. The Bible could have left John 11:35 on the cutting room floor and skipped straight to the rescue, and nothing in the doctrine would have changed. Except for this. We would not know that the Savior cries first. This is the gift to send someone in early grief, when fixing it is not what is needed. The image anchors the Sympathy Gifts collection for the loss that has already happened, and it lives in the Jesus Wept collection alongside the other moments where the Savior chooses shared sorrow over an immediate fix. For the moment when the miracle came, the raising of Lazarus and the raising of Jairus's daughter, see Arise. He held her first. Common questions What scene does Surrender depict? John 11:35. Surrender is shot in daylight, in color, with real people and a real stone wall background. Is Surrender a good Christian sympathy gift? Yes. Surrender is the image to send someone in early grief, when fixing it is not what is needed. It anchors the Sympathy Gifts collection and lives in the Jesus Wept collection. The pairing piece for the moment when the miracle came is Arise, the raising of Lazarus and the raising of Jairus's daughter. Where does Surrender look best in a home? Bedrooms, hallways, and quiet rooms where a person sits with a hard thing. The image asks for stillness. It is not a statement piece on the main wall, it is a presence in a smaller room.
