Superman, The Legend Returns

This commemorative poster marks a milestone moment in American popular culture: Superman's 50th anniversary. Produced for Cleveland, Ohio celebrations honoring Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the teenage creators who first imagined the Man of Steel, this two-sided piece transforms before your eyes. One side captures the iconic phone booth moment, Clark Kent in mid-transformation, his red and blue costume emerging beneath his white shirt and striped tie. The Cleveland skyline, including the Terminal Tower and The May Company building, grounds the superhero firmly in his birthplace. Flip the poster and Superman bursts forth in full glory, cape billowing as he soars over the city that gave him life. The clever telephone booth framing device unifies both compositions, playing on one of Superman's most recognizable visual tropes. The bold primary colors and dynamic poses capture the essence of late-1980s DC Comics artistry, when the character had been revitalized for a new generation while honoring his Depression-era origins. A meaningful piece for Superman collectors and comic book historians, this poster celebrates not just a character but the American dream of two Cleveland kids who created an icon. *Note the backside is listed in a separate listing.
