Superman is one of the world's most famous superheroes, known for his incredible strength, ability to fly, and dedication to truth and justice. Created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, Superman first appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938 and helped launch the superhero genre. Jerry Siegel was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and Joe Shuster grew up in Cleveland after moving there from Canada.  Superman's alter ego is Clark Kent, a reporter who was raised in Smallville after arriving on Earth from the planet Krypton. He protects the fictional city of Metropolis, which was originally inspired in part by Cleveland's skyline through Joe Shuster's artwork, while its modern appearance and character are widely associated with New York City.
