Louisa's Story: The Girl Who Found Her Superpower

By JL Wyman and Illustrated by Leisha Wyman Discover the heartwarming and empowering journey of Louisa Duvall in Louisa’s Story, the first book in the SUPERabled series, which challenges the boundaries of what it means to be "abled." Louisa is an 11-year-old girl with quadriplegia who faces the world from her wheelchair, but her spirit is anything but limited. As Louisa navigates her first summer at a new camp, she encounters the challenges of feeling different and the sting of unkind words. Yet, through every difficulty, she learns to rise above, finding her own unique way to shine. From helping her brother Drew with his "CobraKing" obsession to guiding a lost neighbor back home, Louisa proves that true strength comes not from physical abilities but from the heart. Along the way, Louisa discovers her superpower—one that we all have within us—the ability to help others and make a difference, no matter the obstacles. This touching and insightful story not only invites readers to join Louisa on her adventures but also to reflect on their own lives. The book concludes with thought-provoking questions, encouraging young readers to "Talk About It, Learn About It, Write About It." These questions are designed to engage children in conversations about inclusion, empathy, and self-discovery, such as: How does Louisa’s experience at camp make you feel? Can you think of a time when you felt out of place or misunderstood? Why is it important to be careful about the words we use when talking about other people? How does Louisa help change Ryan’s mind about her, and what does this teach us about giving everyone a chance? Perfect for classrooms, book clubs, or family discussions, "Louisa’s Story" is more than just a book—it's a call to see beyond disabilities and celebrate what truly makes us SUPERabled.  Join Louisa as she learns that we are all disabled in some ways but also SUPERabled in others. Her journey is a reminder that with courage, kindness, and creativity, we can all make the world a better place.
