Sunsteps Berber Rug

Geometric Abstraction Repeating verticals meet softened geometry in this abstract composition that feels like a blueprint in motion. The interplay of ochre, rust, ivory, and slate tones creates a sense of layered light and shadow. Clean cuts are counterbalanced by curved edges, and the irregular rhythm gives the rug a sense of movement—almost musical in its flow. • Handwoven in Morocco • Triple Berber knot pile • 100% Moroccan wool • Long-staple cotton base • Sustainably made • Made to order Materials Moroccan Wool Pile Moroccan wool is sourced from active weaving communities—not industrial farms—where sheep graze at high altitudes and are sheared just once a year. This slower cycle produces longer, stronger fibers that shed far less than wool from hotter, lowland regions. Breeds like Sardi and Beni Guil yield wool with naturally high lanolin content, giving it a soft, springy loft that create the plush piles Moroccan rugs are known for. Cotton Foundation A strong rug needs a strong base. That’s why we use cotton—not wool—for the foundation. Cotton offers the highest tensile strength, allowing it to anchor a thick wool pile without stretching, warping, or degrading over time. It keeps the rug flat, balanced, and made to last. Design Bauhaus This rug draws from the principles of modernist abstraction—clean lines, primary forms, and deliberate asymmetry. A circle interrupts a grid of rectangles, creating tension and flow. The color palette, warm and grounded, gives structure to the geometry, while the deep pile adds depth and softness to the composition. Triple Berber Knotted Most Moroccan rugs today are made with a tensioned false knot—quicker to weave, but prone to loosening, shedding, and distortion over time. We do it differently. Every one of our rugs is constructed using the traditional triple Berber knot: a time-intensive technique that uses more wool and creates a deep, plush pile anchored to a secure foundation. The result is a rug that’s not only softer underfoot, but built to last for generations. Made To Order Each rug is custom made just for you. As soon as your order is placed, our weavers begin knotting by hand—no machines, no shortcuts. Your rug will be finished in 2–4 weeks and shipped via FedEx straight from the loom to your door. Please note: Because each piece is handmade, slight variations in color, pattern, and size are part of the process—and the charm. All made-to-order rugs are final sale. Handwoven in Khenifra, Morocco Each rug is woven by hand in the High Atlas Mountains, using locally sourced wool and age-old techniques passed down through generations. Crafted by women in active weaving cooperatives, these rugs support both cultural preservation and local livelihoods. The materials are native, the methods low-impact, and the process deeply rooted in place—making each piece as sustainable as it is meaningful.
