Sunrise King

Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. A male lion stares into the distance, listening intently for the sounds of his pride mates - and his rivals - before moving on. The silhouette of a lion is unmistakable. They are such universal symbols of power and strength, courage and determination, revered by humans and etched on our Coats of Arms, carried into battle by warriors of old. The mane of a male lion makes him look even larger and more impressive. We photographed this magnificent male one morning standing on a rise above the Talek River making the perfect silhouette as the sun began to rise.
