Sundance Pollen Trap, Bottom Mount

Pollen contains the male cell needed by flowering plants for fertilization and seed formation. Flower pollen collects on the legs and bodies of worker bees. Pollen comes from many plants, so the contents of a container of bee pollen can vary significantly depending on the region and month it was collected. Bees can collect as much as 65 lbs. of pollen per year, per hive. Honey bees uses pollen as a protein-rich source of food. This trap collects about 2/3 of the pollen loads on bees' legs. It is best to turn off the trap every 3 weeks so the bees more easily store pollen for themselves. It mounts at the bottom of a standard 10 frame wooden hive, above the bottom board. Pollen should be taken from the drawer daily to prevent growth of small hive beetles in the drawer. Freeze your pollen and check it for debris before selling for human consumption. The Sundance Bottom Mounted Pollen trap is the industry standard for pollen collection. This pollen trap comes fully assembled and allows collection of fresh, clean pollen for use in pollen patties or to sell. Pollen can be harvested without opening the hive. All bottom mount versions can be turned "on" or "off" without removing the trap from the hive. The integrated Luan cover protects the pollen from debris that falls within the hive. An easily accessible collection drawer allows for frequent collection, ensuring the freshness of the pollen. Use of bottom mounted pollen traps prevents monitoring for Varroa mites using screened bottom boards. Complete use and care instructions are included.
