Dig a hole that's twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper than the root ball itself. Gently place the tree in the hole, backfilling with soil and ensuring that the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding ground. Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. 2. Watering: During the first year, ensure the tree receives consistent moisture, especially during dry spells. Water deeply once a week, allowing the soil to dry slightly between watering. Once established, the tree will need less frequent watering, but it's wise to monitor soil conditions. 3. Pruning: Prune in late summer or early fall to prevent messy sap flow. Remove any dead or crossing branches to maintain a healthy shape, promoting good air circulation. Minimal pruning is typically needed, as this tree maintains a tidy form as it matures. 4. Fertilizing: In early spring, consider applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer to encourage healthy growth. If your soil is rich in organic matter, you may not need to fertilize every year. Monitor the tree's overall health and adjust as needed based on its growth.
