SUN/SON

ORIGIN STORY TRADITION | DEVOTION - Astrology is the first science of humanity; sun worship, our first religion. Worship of the sun has been found to exist in cultures in every corner of our world. The similarities in the different cultures’ symbolism of solar deities, amulets, and rituals is profound considering their inability to travel or communicate at that time. Before we even knew of each other's existence, we were all worshipping the sun. Perhaps because early societies were primarily agricultural and depended on the sun for sustenance, thus making it an object of devotion. Regardless of the reason, sun worship was a shared practice that spanned across the world. Sun worship has made its way into more modern religious interpretations. The celebration of Christmas was set to December 25, the same day as the feast of Sol Invictus, a god of the Roman Empire, which was likely carried from Syria. Uncanny parallels exist among the stories of the birth of Christ, early sun worship rituals, and astrology. December 25 is very near to the winter solstice, which would have likely occurred on December 21 or 22, when the sun appears to stand still in its place in the sky for 3 days, before it is born again on the 24 or 25, when it begins to grow into longer days. This means December 25 denotes the birth of both the SUN and the SON. Stories like these provoke perspective and discernment about the origin of our modern traditions and cultural narratives in which we have been accustomed to blind faith. What do you worship?
