Plant them in the ground, or pop them in huge outdoor containers for a fun look. March them along your pool deck or patio for a near-tropical feeling. Style them anyway you'd like! This shrub can handle a "lot of look" and compliments urban or rustic properties equally as well. Summer Wine® Black Ninebark is cloaked in saturated foliage all the way to the ground. These shrubs make an excellent privacy screen wherever you need it. Plant a hedge to shield your patio seating. Try several to block your child's play structure from the street view. Grow them in a pot on your balcony to create a blissfully secure escape. Plant four feet apart on center to create a solid screen. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next. #ProPlantTips for Care Ninebark needs full sun for the darkest color. Provide at least six hours of direct sunlight. Ensure their planting soil drains quickly after rain. Otherwise, you'll want to plant them in a raised bed. If you'll keep them in containers, we recommend that you drill additional drainage holes in your container. Elevate it with bricks or clay feet and avoid placing a saucer underneath. Water Summer Wine® Black Ninebark carefully during its first season. Container-grown plants need supplemental water always. In-ground plants need supplemental water in times of drought. Prune, if needed, right after the flowers are faded and dried. Don't delay, or you'll risk cutting off the blooms for next year. Conduct periodic renewal pruning every few years to keep your shrub flowering well. Remove the thickest, oldest stems at ground level and leave young, thin stems in place. Get deep, rich, mysterious color all season without having to lift a finger. Order your Summer Wine® Black Ninebark today!
