Cucurbita pepo HEIRLOOM. This classic zucchini was introduced in the 1930s by D.V. Burrell Seed Growers of Rocky Ford, Colorado. It has since come to be a favorite of farmers and gardeners alike. Lovely medium-green fruits flecked with gray grow on highly productive, bush-type plants. When picked small, at about 6 to 8 inches long, the flavor and crisp, tender texture can’t be beat. Grey Zucchini can be direct seeded in a location with full sun after all threat of frost has passed. If you have a short growing season, it can also be started indoors, but handle the seedlings carefully and plant them out when they are young since they are vulnerable to transplant shock. Fruit will be ready to harvest in 42 to 65 days.
