Sumatra Mandheling

Sumatra is the western most island in Indonesia.  The Malacca Straits runs along the Northeastern side of the island and separates this part of Indonesia from Malaysia and Singapore.  Maritime traders have used these waterways for centuries to transport goods, including coffee between Asia, Europe and the Western Hemisphere. The Sumatra Mandheling is a classic Sumatran coffee grown in the Northern highlands, where elevations can reach up to 5,000 feet.  This coffee is noted for the wet hulling and natural drying process that retains a slightly higher moisture level than most coffee (~12-14% vs. the typical 10-12%).  This will leave a slightly muted taste and aroma profile. Despite the muted flavors, the discerning palate will detect a slight chocolate flavor and an occasional liquorice note.  The earthy complex flavor delivers a full body that is often described a syrupy.  This coffee also has a lower level of acidity, making this a good choice for those coffee lovers looking for a slightly higher pH level in their morning cup.  T Sumatra Mandheling is a Medium roast.
