Suffragettes Protesting Equal Voting Rights, May 4th, 1912

A suffrage parade that left an indelible mark on the movement took place on May 4 1912. Participants wore their iconic white attire, with their "Votes For Women" sashes, and advanced up 5th Avenue, beginning their journey from Washington Square and culminating at the renowned Carnegie Hall. This particular demonstration proved to be even grander in scale than the preceding year's event, further amplifying the growing momentum of the suffrage movement. Estimates indicate that the spring parade amassed an impressive assembly of approximately 10,000 to 15,000 dedicated marchers. Among the scenes captured in photographs from that historic day is one that stands out: a baby carriage positioned at the center, symbolizing the ongoing struggle for women's rights and the hope for a brighter future.
