Great design for keeping sand inside and preventing leaks. It takes a different kind of strength and grit to move a heavy sandbag. It will help me as I prepare for The Tactical Games. It was easy to fill and the quality looks great. Plus with a name like Freedom Strength — 2 things that are mandatory for me — it is perfect!" — David T., Verified Buyer (150 lb bag) Why Freedom Strength Makes the Best Strongman Sandbag on the Market ▼ Why Freedom Strength Makes the Best Strongman Sandbag on the Market Not all sandbags are created equal. Most bags on the market are made with thin, low-grade fabric that tears after a few months of heavy use. Freedom Strength Strongman Sandbags are engineered differently — overbuilt for extreme durability and heavy, repeated use. Here's what makes the Freedom Strength Strongman Sandbag the strongest sandbag available: 1050D Cordura Nylon fabric — the same heavy-duty material used in professional outdoor and rugged sports equipment. Significantly thicker and more abrasion-resistant than standard sandbag fabrics, built to hold up under years of heavy, repeated use. Reinforced triple-stitched seams with bonded nylon thread — Seams are the most common failure point on cheaper bags. Ours are built to withstand thousands of drops so you never have to stop mid-session with sand leaking through a blown seam. Giant Flap Free Design — Our unique top closing system removes the big velcro flap all other companies use. This reduces stress on the top seams, making ours stronger, and provides a cleaner surface to grab — no more accidentally snatching the flap instead of the bag. YKK zipper — the gold standard in zipper quality, used by premium gear brands worldwide. No cheap zippers that jam or break under load. Built-in filler bag with double Velcro + zipper closure — a dual-closure system that keeps your fill material locked in during the most intense workouts. Drop it, shoulder it, throw it — the sand stays put. 15 sizes from 50 lbs to 400 lbs — the only strongman sandbag brand on the market offering this full range in 25 lb increments, so you always have the right weight for the right movement. How to Choose Your Size ▼ How to Choose Your Size Choosing the right sandbag weight depends on your current strength level and, most importantly, what exercises you plan to do with it. Here's what we recommend based on years of experience helping customers find the right setup: Most popular picks: Men — 150–175 lb  |  Women — 100–125 lb If you're just starting out with sandbag training: Best size for beginner men: 100–125 lb bag, depending on your current strength and training experience. This weight range is heavy enough to be challenging while still being manageable for learning proper technique on carries, cleans, and squats. Best size for beginner women: 50–75 lb bag, depending on your current strength and training experience. This allows you to master the movements without being overwhelmed. If you're planning to buy only one bag (and want maximum versatility): Best all-around size for men: 150–175 lb bag. This weight range is heavy enough for productive carries, squats, and cleans, while still being manageable for presses and dynamic movements as you build strength. Best all-around size for women: 100–125 lb bag. This gives you enough weight for lower body work and carries without being too heavy for upper body exercises. ⚠️ Common Sizing Mistake: Don't Buy Heavy and "Work Up To It" A common mistake is buying a heavy bag (like 200+ lbs) with the plan to underfill it at first and add weight over time. This actually makes training harder, not easier. Here's why: An underfilled sandbag becomes floppy and unstable, which makes it awkward and difficult to control The shifting, loose sand creates uneven weight distribution that's frustrating to work with You can't properly learn technique when the bag is flopping around Once you're strong enough to fill the bag to its full weight, it may be too heavy for many exercises which can limit what you can actually do with it The better approach: Buy a bag you can fill to near-capacity and actually use now. A properly filled 150 lb bag will give you far better workouts than a floppy, underfilled 250 lb bag. Exercise-specific considerations: Planning to mostly do carries, squats, and cleans? You can go heavier — these are your strongest movement patterns. Men can consider 175–200 lbs, women can consider 125–150 lbs. Want to include overhead presses and dynamic movements? Stick to the lighter end of the range — pressing a sandbag overhead is significantly harder than carrying it. Want to do full-body sandbag workouts with varied exercises? You'll realistically need multiple bags in different weight ranges to program effectively. 💡 Advanced: The Ideal Multi-Bag Setup (Optional but Recommended) Many serious sandbag athletes own 2–3 bags in different weight ranges to cover the full spectrum of exercises. For example: Light bag (50–100 lbs): Overhead presses, high-rep conditioning, warm-ups, technique work Medium bag (100–175 lbs): Cleans, front squats, moderate carries, general strength work Heavy bag (200+ lbs): Max effort carries, stone lift practice, heavy loading events, competition prep With multiple bags, you can program any workout you can think of — just like having a full rack of dumbbells. Some customers start with one medium-weight bag and add a second heavier or lighter bag later as their training evolves. Bottom line: Buy a bag you can fill to near-capacity and use productively right now. Don't buy heavy hoping to "grow into it" — an under-filled bag trains badly and limits your progress. The Giant Flap Free Design. Most sandbags (including Rogue and Cerberus) use a large Velcro flap or strap that covers the zipper on top. This creates two problems: Accidental grip issues — When picking up the bag quickly, you can accidentally grab the flap instead of the bag itself, which throws off your lift Structural weak point — The flap is sewn into the side seams. After repeated drops, the weight of the bag pulls on this attachment point, causing the seams to eventually rip or separate. This is the most common failure point on competitor bags. Our Giant Flap Free Design eliminates both issues. The result? A sleeker, stronger bag that won't accidentally get grabbed wrong and won't develop the standard weak point that causes other bags to fail. 2. Smaller Diameter for Better Grip. Our bags (50–275 lbs) use a 15" diameter, while Rogue and Cerberus use 16" diameter across all sizes. That extra inch makes a real difference when you're trying to wrap your arms around the bag for bear hugs, cleans, and carries. A smaller diameter means better control, easier grip, and more natural positioning. How to Fill Your Freedom Strength Sandbag ▼ How to Fill Your Freedom Strength Sandbag One of the biggest questions new sandbag owners have is: "How do I fill it?" Freedom Strength sandbags are designed to make this as simple as possible. Each bag comes with a built-in integrated funnel and filler bag, secured with a double Velcro and zipper closure. The whole process takes about 15 minutes. How to fill your Freedom Strength Sandbag: Open the top of the bag and ensure the zipper pull is facing the correct direction. Pull out the integrated funnel from inside the bag. Pour in dry play sand (available at any hardware store like Home Depot or Lowe's for around $5–$8 per 50 lb bag). Weigh as you fill to hit your target weight. Once at weight, velcro the filler bag closed and roll it down tightly. Tuck the funnel back inside and close the YKK zipper. Seal the top Velcro completely — you should see no black from the Velcro when looking down onto the bag. Built-in filler funnel makes filling easy in about 15 minutes Because they fill and empty easily, Freedom Strength sandbags are also the perfect portable training tool. Take them to the park, the beach, a competition, or a friend's gym without hauling hundreds of pounds of sand with you. ▶ Watch: How to fill your Freedom Strength Strongman Sandbag Frequently Asked Questions ▼ Frequently Asked Questions What should I fill my sandbag with? We recommend dry play sand, available at any hardware store (like Home Depot or Lowe's) for around $5–$8 per 50 lb bag. Do not use wet or damp sand as it makes filling more difficult and causes the bag to retain moisture, which can make the fabric feel damp during use. What size sandbag should I buy? For most beginner men, we recommend starting with a 100–125 lb bag. For beginner women, a 50–75 lb bag is a great starting point. If you want one versatile bag that can do it all, men tend to get the most use from a 150–175 lb bag, and women from a 100–125 lb bag. The most important rule: buy a bag you can fill to near-capacity now, not one you plan to "grow into." An underfilled bag is floppy, unstable, and harder to train with. See the How to Choose Your Size section above for full details. How much does a Freedom Strength sandbag cost? Freedom Strength Strongman Sandbags start at $78.99 for the 50 lb size and go up to $156.99 for the largest sizes. Free shipping applies to all orders over $150. Considering the quality of materials and how long these bags last, they represent excellent value compared to competitors. Is sandbag training good for strongman? Yes — sandbag training is one of the most sport-specific tools available for strongman athletes. The shifting, unstable weight closely mimics the demands of loading events, carries, and stone work. Many competitive strongman athletes train with sandbags year-round to build the grip strength, core stability, and full-body power required at competition. Freedom Strength sandbags have been used at The Pro Strongman League and other elite events nationwide. How do I know when my bag is at the right weight? We strongly recommend placing your bag on a bathroom or postal scale as you fill it. The weight of your fill material can vary depending on its density. Always weigh your bag to confirm accuracy — do not fill beyond the labeled weight as overfilling can stress the seams. Can I drop my sandbag? Yes, Freedom Strength sandbags are built to endure repeated drops. However, they are not designed for slamming (repeatedly dropping from overhead with maximum force). For best longevity, use them on rubber flooring or non-abrasive surfaces. Will my sandbag last forever? Like all training equipment, sandbags are wear items and will eventually show signs of use. Freedom Strength sandbags are overbuilt to outlast every competitor on the market, but no sandbag lasts forever under heavy, competitive use. We stand behind our craftsmanship and build every bag to be the strongest, most durable option available. Is this bag good for beginners? Absolutely. The 50 lb, 75 lb, and 100 lb sizes are perfect entry points for anyone new to sandbag training. Sandbag workouts are highly scalable — you can start light, learn the movements, and increase weight as your strength grows. How is Freedom Strength different from other sandbag brands? Four things set us apart: (1) We offer 15 sizes from 50 to 400 lbs in 25 lb increments — no other major brand we've compared offers this range. (2) Our materials — 1050D Cordura Nylon with YKK zippers and triple-stitched seams — are genuinely heavier duty than anything else on the market. (3) Our unique Giant Flap Free Design removes the velcro flap all other sandbag companies use, creating a better grip surface and eliminating the most common structural failure point on competitor bags. (4) We have 1,463 verified customer reviews averaging 4.98★, and over 15,000 sandbags sold worldwide. Are sandbags good for firefighters, BJJ athletes, and first responders? Yes — sandbag training is one of the best tools for anyone whose job or sport demands real world functional strength. Firefighters and first responders benefit from heavy carries and loading movements that mimic dragging hose, carrying gear, and moving people. BJJ and grappling athletes use sandbag training to build the grip endurance, hip drive, and full-body tension that transfers directly to the mat. The shifting, unpredictable weight of a sandbag trains your body to handle real life demands in a way that barbells and machines simply can't replicate. That's what we mean when we say Freedom Strength is built to help you train for life. Do you offer a warranty? Yes, we offer a 1-year warranty covering normal wear and tear. We also have a 30-day return policy for items in new and unused condition. Please visit our Refund & Return Policy page for full details. What weight strongman sandbag should I buy? Most men choose 150–175 lb and most women choose 100–125 lb for an all-around bag. True beginners should start lighter — 50–100 lb for men, 50–75 lb for women. The key is buying a bag you can fill to near-capacity and train with productively right n
