Stress Beyond 50

Stress Beyond 50: Tools & Wisdom for a Happier, Longer Life comes from the author's professional knowledge and personal wisdom. Joan Vernikos is the retired Director of Life Sciences for NASA, where she studied the stress on astronauts during space launches and under zero gravity. As she studied stress in a scientific context, she also experienced it personally, raising children, pursuing a career, caring for family members, and navigating decisions about retirement. She recognizes, too, that stress can be a positive force: The same chemical reactions can energize us for achieving the unexpected. A definition of stress provides a foundation of understanding. The book goes on to offer many practical tactics and strategies for diffusing, avoiding, and managing stress. There are breathing techniques you can immediately put into practice, and suggestions for things you might think through now to avoid predictable stress in the future. And, we note, stress is cited as the most common reason for declining interest in sex among women at any age.  192-page paperback Who should consider this product Anyone who's feeling stress, or has a growing awareness of the number of changes and challenges we as women face at midlife and beyond. Why we chose it The MiddlesexMD team met Joan Vernikos when Dr. Barb interviewed her for the podcast, The Fullness of Midlife, on the importance of physical movement throughout our days. When we learned she'd published a new book on stress, we knew we should add it to our shop.
