Straw Limewash

Our Straw Limewash is a close color match to our Natural Wheat Lime Putty Mortar/Basecoat when wet.  Limewash offers excellent breath-ability for interior/exterior brick, stucco, adobe, and walls that require a high perm rating. Breathable with no out gassing. For interior use, adding Casein is recommended to reduce chalking. When dry, limewash has a natural matte finish that won’t peel.  Our Straw Limewash has a very high pH which greatly reduces the existence of viruses, bacteria, mold, mildew, fungus and moss. Coverage for both spray and brushing application swill be approx. 150-200 square feet per gallon. Number of coats will depend on the surface, however at least three coats is typical. We recommend using a Beater Attachment to thoroughly mix the limewash throughout application.  *Proper surface prep is key!* We recommend completely removing all old paint prior to limewashing. Use Cathedral Stone Heavy Duty Paint Remover on historic buildings. Do not use any paint strippers with acid due to the chemical reaction that occurs in homes built with lime mortar. When acid comes in contact with lime, salt is produced. salt is an enemy to any masonry structure! Limewash is the consistency of milk. If it is thicker it will crack and craze. Several coats will be needed for complete coverage.   As always, test areas are a must! Use eye and skin protection. Lime is caustic!  Read the installation guide below and contact us with any questions. Limewash Installation Guide SDS Tech Data Sheet
