Hi Fin Red Banded Goby - Philippines

Stonogobiops nematodes The Hi Fin Red Banded Goby is a captivating and peaceful reef-safe species admired for its bold coloration and intriguing behavior. It features a slender white body with striking black vertical bands and a bright yellow head, accented by an elongated first dorsal fin that extends like a banner—creating an elegant, eye-catching display. This species is best known for its fascinating symbiotic relationship with pistol shrimp (Alpheus randalli). The goby keeps watch for danger while the shrimp maintains their shared burrow, a partnership that adds movement and personality to any reef aquarium. In captivity, the Hi Fin Red Banded Goby thrives in tanks with fine sand and plenty of live rock for burrowing and shelter. It remains peaceful toward most tankmates but may display territorial behavior toward similar shrimp gobies. A covered aquarium is recommended, as this small goby can jump when startled. Feeding on a varied diet of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood, this species is easy to care for and adapts well to aquarium life. Growing to about 2 inches in length, the Hi Fin Red Banded Goby makes a perfect addition to nano and community reef tanks alike, offering both charm and natural behavior.
