Stankonia Coffee

Portrait Coffee's Stankonia Coffee isn't just a limited release—it's a tribute to 25 years of sonic innovation, cultural disruption, and Atlanta's unmistakable creative energy. Born from the collaboration between Outkast and Portrait, this coffee mirrors the album's bold fusion of funk, futurism, and Southern soul. Sourced from Rwanda and Colombia, two origins known for their vibrant acidity and clarity, Stankonia is a bridge between music and coffee culture: layered, unexpected, and impossible to forget. Tasting Notes This medium roast opens with the crisp brightness of green apple, playful and sharp, before settling into ripe strawberry sweetness that coats the palate. The finish rounds out with brown sugar, warm and familiar, leaving a rhythm that lingers long after the cup cools. The body is medium, silky without weight, with a lively acidity that keeps each sip dynamic. It's fruit-forward without being jammy, sweet without being cloying—a coffee that feels both nostalgic and forward-thinking, just like the album it honors. Origin & Process The Rwanda component brings experimental natural processing, which amplifies fruit complexity and adds a funky, wine-like depth. The Colombian washed coffee provides structure and balance, contributing clarity and a clean, sugary finish. Together, they create a blend that's greater than the sum of its parts—much like Big Boi and André 3000. Brew Methods Stankonia Coffee shines across multiple methods. As espresso, it pulls thick and syrupy, with strawberry and brown sugar taking center stage. In pour-over (V60, Kalita), the green apple acidity becomes crisp and articulate, perfect for those who want brightness and clarity. Drip brewing softens the edges and emphasizes sweetness, making it an easy daily driver that still commands attention. French press works too, though you'll trade some clarity for a fuller, rounder body.
