Stagg Jr. 2015 (batch 5)

Experience the legendary Stagg Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 2015, a formidable barrel-proof expression delivering unparalleled depth of flavor. Unfiltered and uncut, this bourbon offers an intense journey of dark fruit, rich oak, and complex spices for the discerning connoisseur. Tasting Notes Nose: A profound aromatic journey begins with an immediate rush of dark, macerated cherries and sun-dried figs, interwoven with rich, opulent caramel and warm vanilla bean. Hints of toasted oak and worn leather emerge, balanced by subtle baking spices – cinnamon, nutmeg, and a whisper of clove – all underpinned by a deep, earthy tobacco note. Despite the high proof, the alcohol is remarkably well-integrated, presenting as a warming presence rather than a sharp sting. Palate: The entry is incredibly viscous and full-bodied, coating the palate with an explosion of flavor. Sweet brown sugar and molasses lead, quickly followed by a powerful wave of dark chocolate, espresso, and roasted nuts. The fruit notes from the nose resurface, now more concentrated as stewed plums and blackcurrant jam. A delightful play between sweetness and a robust, spicy kick of black pepper, rye spice, and charred oak develops, showcasing the bourbon's unfiltered character. The 129.7 proof is evident but presents as a rich warmth that amplifies the complexity without overpowering it. Finish: Long, lingering, and exceptionally satisfying. The finish evolves gracefully, starting with a cascade of sweet pipe tobacco and leathery tannins, then fading into notes of dark cocoa and a comforting, dry oak spice. A gentle reprise of caramel and vanilla persists, leaving a warm, sophisticated glow with incredible depth and an almost chewable quality. The barrel proof nature ensures a memorable, evolving conclusion.
