Spotted Bee Balm - Monarda punctata

Spotted Bee Balm (Monarda punctata) is a native short-lived perennial or annual wildflower native to North America, mainly East of the Rocky Mountains. This Bee Balm variety grows 2-3′ tall in full sun or partial shade and well-drained sandy or loam soil. The complex purple/pink-yellow blooms attract numerous bees and butterflies and are a larval host of Gray Marvel, Pyralid Moths, and Raspberry Pyrausta.  As a North American native, bee balm is a durable perennial that multiplies well in moist soil and full sun. While they typically bloom in the summer heat, their sturdy stems will keep the flowers upright and shining. Their fragrant, colorful blooms attract all sorts of pollinators to the garden, but mint-like foliage deters deer and other pests.
