Spookfontein 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon from Spookfontein, grown in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley of South Africa’s Cape South Coast, is a bold and brooding wine that showcases the region’s cool-climate finesse. It opens with aromas of black plum, cassis, and dark berries, layered with hints of menthol and earthy undertones. On the palate, the wine is plush and full-bodied, with high acidity and ripe tannins that frame its concentrated dark fruit core. The elevated alcohol lends warmth and depth, while subtle oak influence adds complexity without overpowering the fruit. The finish is long and structured, revealing notes of bitter chocolate and spice that linger gracefully. This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs beautifully with rich, savory dishes such as grilled ribeye steak, braised short ribs, and lamb shank. Its bold character complements hearty stews and game meats like venison, while its acidity and tannins balance creamy mushroom risotto and aged cheeses such as cheddar or Gruyère. For a vegetarian option, try it with roasted portobello mushrooms or eggplant lasagna to highlight its earthy nuances. 750ml
