Split Foam Back™ - PMD

Split Foam Back™ - PMD: The Midge That Thinks It's a Life Raft Small fly, big personality. The Split Foam Back™ - PMD started life as a midge pattern for the Grey Reef section of the North Platte River and evolved into a tiny flotation expert that also looks good doing it. Perfect for anglers who want realistic presentation with a touch of buoyant attitude. Who it’s for: anglers chasing picky trout, weekend warriors who respect a well-tied fly, and anyone practicing AXG Life—because fishing should be Life, Adventure-Ready whether you catch fish or stories. Key Features & Design Pattern: PMD (Pale Morning Dun) midge style, originally designed for the Grey Reef section of the North Platte River. Construction: features a small insert of dense foam in the back for added realism and durability. Buoyancy: subtle float provided by the split foam back—enough to keep your presentation natural, not buoyant like a rubber duck. Appearance: split down the back for life-like silhouette and improved profile in the surface film. Performance / Benefits Think of the Split Foam Back™ as the fly that refuses to surrender to the current. The dense foam insert gives the pattern just enough lift to ride the film convincingly without screaming “I’m floating!” to every trout for miles. That split down the back? It breaks up the outline, mimicking a real midge and increasing your chances of a hesitant rise turning into a committed strike. It’s ideal for those technical nymph-to-surface transitions where subtlety wins. In short: it turns stuck weekends into hero stories, holds up through multiple casts, and helps you land the trout that graduated top of the class in suspicious behavior. Why AXG Life cares: This fly keeps your kit efficient, your presentations believable, and your confidence annoyingly justified. Life, Adventure-Ready—now with better flotation. Ready to fish? Toss a few Split Foam Back™ - PMD into your fly box and make your next rise the highlight of someone’s campfire tale. Add to cart and make Monday jealous.
