Soft, light blue or bluish-gray with a subtle sheen in the light. The blue is striking and elegant against the bright red rose comb and wattles. Body Type: Small, compact and muscular. Despite being small they are robust and strong with an upright posture. Athletic body reflects their active nature. Comb and Wattles: Rose comb is one of the most distinctive features of the Blue Rosecomb. Smaller than the single comb found in many other breeds, rounded and sits close to the top of the head. The wattles are small but bright red. Tail: Long, elegant and carried slightly upright. Tail feathers are slightly sweeping. The contrast between the blue body and the darker tail feathers is eye catching. Legs and Toes: Clean, yellow and relatively short. Three toes on each foot. Yellow legs are a nice contrast to the bird. Temperament: Active and Spirited: The Blue Rosecomb is active and lively. They are highly active, agile and always on the move, always exploring. Inquisitive and great foragers. Always alert and curious about their surroundings. Independent and Confident: As a bantam with game bird lineage, the Blue Rosecomb is independent, confident and sometimes bold. Not shy and can assert themselves in a flock, especially with other more passive chickens. Best suited for larger flocks or free range where they can thrive. Free Range: The Blue Rosecomb Bantam does well in free range, where they can roam and forage. They love having plenty of space to move and express themselves. Their agility and energetic nature makes them good for environments where they can be active and independent. Dominant Behaviour: Due to their confident nature, Blue Rosecomb Bantams may display dominant behaviour in a flock, especially with other passive or less energetic breeds. House them with other active or assertive chickens to avoid conflicts. Egg Laying: Moderate Egg Production: Like many bantams, the Blue Rosecomb Bantam is not known for high egg production. They lay small white eggs, about 2-3 per week. Not prolific egg layers but the eggs are good quality and taste. Egg Size and Quality: Small eggs but prized for freshness and flavour. The Blue Rosecomb Bantam is more valued for its beauty and ornamental qualities than its egg laying ability but the eggs are a nice bonus for those who keep them. Health and Care: Hardy: Blue Rosecomb Bantams are hardy birds that adapt well to different climates. However, like all bantams, they may be more susceptible to extreme cold temperatures due to their small size and single comb. In colder climates, extra care should be taken to protect them from frostbite, especially on their comb and wattles. Low Maintenance: These bantams are low maintenance in terms of grooming. Their smooth, glossy feathers don’t require frequent grooming but should be checked regularly for parasites like mites or lice. Keep their living area clean and dry is important for their health. Flight Risk: Like many bantams, Blue Rosecomb Bantams can fly short distances. Being small and agile, they can fly over low fences. A secure pen with high fencing is necessary to keep them safe and protected from predators. Show and Ornamental Qualities: Poultry Shows: The Blue Rosecomb Bantam is highly prized in poultry shows for its unique appearance with the beautiful blue plumage and rose comb. Their graceful movements and striking colour makes them a favourite among poultry enthusiasts and show participants. Show Quality: Apart from showing, the Blue Rosecomb Bantam is kept for ornamental purposes. Lovely to look at and lively, they are a great addition to any backyard flock. They are more suited for ornamental purposes because of their beauty. Frequently Asked Questions:  What is a Splash Rosecomb Bantam?
