Splash Ameraucana

Splash Ameraucana Chicken Splash Ameraucanas are predominantly white birds adorned with striking splashes of blue and black throughout their plumage. These visually appealing chickens are often produced by breeding two blue Ameraucanas. Since the blue color gene doesn’t breed true, you can expect a variety of blue, black, and splash chicks to hatch. However, Splash does breed true, meaning that when two Splash Ameraucanas are bred together, their offspring will consistently be Splash chicks. Splash and black exhibit co-dominance, so crossing a Splash with a black Ameraucana will result in a full batch of blue chicks. Ameraucanas are known for laying eggs in various shades of green. While green eggs are less common and not always preferred, they do not signify that the bird is anything less than a pure Ameraucana. When you breed a Splash Ameraucana rooster with a Splash Ameraucana hen, you can be confident that the resulting chicks will be 100% Splash. Temperament: Friendly and Docile: Ameraucanas, including the Splash variety, are known for their calm, friendly, and docile nature. They tend to be very sociable and can be great pets for families or small homesteads. They are not as flighty or aggressive as some other breeds, which makes them easier to handle. Curious and Intelligent: These chickens are quite intelligent and curious. They enjoy exploring their surroundings and foraging for food, making them excellent free-range birds. They may not be as "cuddly" as some other breeds, but they are still generally easy to interact with and enjoy human companionship. Good with Other Chickens: Splash Ameraucanas usually get along well with other chickens in a flock and tend to be peaceful, which makes them great additions to a mixed flock. Egg Laying: Blue Eggs: One of the standout features of the Ameraucana breed, including the Splash variety, is their ability to lay blue eggs. The eggs can vary in shade from pale blue to deeper turquoise, and they are often prized for their unique color. Egg Production: The Splash Ameraucana is considered a reliable layer, producing approximately 3-4 eggs per week. While they may not be as prolific as some commercial layers, they still provide a good supply of eggs over time. Egg Quality: The eggs are medium to large in size and have a smooth, thick shell. The taste of the eggs is often considered to be delicious, with a rich and flavorful profile. Health and Care: Hardy: Ameraucanas are generally hardy chickens that can adapt to a range of climates. However, as with all chickens, it’s important to provide them with shelter from extreme weather conditions, especially in areas with very cold winters or intense heat. Feather Maintenance: The Splash variety, with its unique feather pattern, generally does not require special grooming, but like all chickens, they should be kept in a clean environment to avoid the buildup of dirt or debris in their feathers. Clean and Comfortable Coop: Ameraucanas are typically hardy birds, but they do best in a clean, dry coop with adequate space to move around. They enjoy having room to roam, so a free-range setup is ideal if possible. Frequently Asked Questions:  What color eggs do splash Ameraucana lay?
