Recognizing this, Speedcom changed how headsets are built by making the SCC-2MPI with a built-in molded plug. Other brands use the two plastic earpiece halves to hold the cable, but Speedcom uses cabling that has a security block built in during the manufacturing stage, so you can pull on it all you want. Is this a more expensive way to build a headset? Yes. Is it the better way to build a headset? Also yes. Using the popular IMSA wiring protocol, the cable is 1.1m (3 ft. 9 in.) long, easily reaching a communication unit that's dash-mounted unit, shoved next to the seat of a D.E. car, or in the instructor's hand.
