Speaking of God—Leading Effective Group Bible Studies is written by Dr. John M. Oakes. The small Bible study group is the heart of all, or perhaps more accurately, nearly all effective and growing Christian ministries in the world. This has been the case, in one form or another, throughout the history of Christianity. The Bible discussions that happen in these groups (along with the discipling that happens there) are at the heart of what makes them effective at changing the lives of both the saved and the lost—transforming them into the likeness of Christ. For this reason, time and effort devoted to presenting clear, educational, motivating, inspirational small group Bible discussions is time very well spent. John Oakes has been a disciple of Jesus for over forty years. He has led as many as three small Bible discussion groups at any one time. He has led more than two thousand small group Bible discussions over the years, and has sat in on nearly an equal number led by others. He has both led and observed the good, the bad and the ugly. In those forty-plus years he has learned a few things that will be helpful to you as you take on two of the most important roles in the church: bringing believers to maturity and bringing the lost to Christ. In addition to the over 80 group Bible studies, John Oakes includes proven and practical advice on helping your group become effective in bringing the good news to a needy world.
