La Fontana de Oro Oranges, Spanish Crate Label

"La Fontana de Oro" transforms the humble citrus crate label into a miniature masterpiece of commercial art. This early 1960s design for Agrios de Levante, a Valencia-based citrus exporter, employs a brilliant visual metaphor: plump oranges on a branch become a fountain, complete with wooden spigot, releasing a cascade of golden juice that pools among gleaming gold coins. The brand name, "The Golden Fountain," comes to vivid life through chromolithography at its most assured. Printed by the Valencia firm S. Dura, this label exemplifies the care Spanish citrus companies invested in their visual identities during the export boom of the post-war decades. The cerulean background, rendered in that particular Mediterranean blue, sets off the warm oranges and golden coins with jewel-like intensity. Every element reinforces the message: these oranges are liquid gold, prosperity made tangible. A standout piece for collectors of European fruit crate labels or Spanish commercial graphics, this design captures the optimism of an industry at its peak.
