Spaeth's Alder

Why it rocks: Spaeth's Alder is a large, rapid-growing shade tree selection. This tree is an excellent alternative when replacing ash trees in urban settings. Spaeth's Alder stands out with coppery-purple leaves in spring before transitioning to glossy green in the summer. Where to put it: Spaeth's Alder is a top pick for the parkway, parks, or large open landscapes where shade is needed. Plant this tree at least 15ft away from buildings. What it needs: This nitrogen-fixing tree adapts to a variety of soil conditions. Spaeth's Alder prefers moist soil and is tolerant of dry conditions once fully established. Be sure to follow our tree care instructions for the first few growing seasons until the root system is well-established.
