Leisure Time Spa Down | pH Decreaser

Leisure Time Spa Down is a fast-dissolving granular pH decreaser formulated for spas and hot tubs. Active chemistry: 95% sodium bisulfate — a dry acid that safely lowers both pH and total alkalinity when readings drift too high. The mirror-image counterpart to Spa Up, and together the two products handle every pH correction a hot tub owner will ever need to make. High pH is one of the most common — and most overlooked — spa water problems. When pH rises above 7.8, three things go wrong simultaneously: chlorine and bromine lose effectiveness (chlorine at pH 8.0 is less than half as active as chlorine at pH 7.4), calcium and minerals fall out of solution and form scale on heater elements and jets, and water turns cloudy or dull as suspended particles refuse to coalesce. Many owners spend weeks adding more sanitizer to fix what is actually a pH problem — and the sanitizer keeps disappearing because the underlying chemistry won't let it work. Spa Down corrects high pH quickly and precisely. The granular dry acid dissolves in seconds with the circulation system running, and a small ¼ oz. dose per 500 gallons typically lowers pH and alkalinity in measurable, predictable steps. Used as part of a weekly balance check with a quality test strip, Spa Down is the essential second half of any spa owner's pH toolkit — and significantly safer to handle than liquid muriatic acid, which it directly replaces. Pro Tip: Spa Down lowers both pH and total alkalinity, but the two readings respond at different rates. Alkalinity typically drops faster than pH per dose. If alkalinity is already low (below 80 ppm) and pH is high, you have a tricky situation — adding more Spa Down will crash alkalinity into the unstable zone before pH reaches target. The cleanest fix is to dose Spa Down to bring alkalinity to the low-normal range (around 80 ppm), let pH settle for 24 hours, then reassess. Often pH self-corrects to a workable range as the chemistry rebalances. Brand Leisure Time®
