This original Ukrainian Soviet poster was produced in 1971 as part of the Ukraine in the Ninth Five-Year Plan series, promoting ambitious production goals to be reached by 1975. Unlike posters focused on heavy industry or agriculture, this example highlights everyday consumer goods, announcing targets of up to 925 million square meters of fabric, 346 million knitted items, and 172 million pairs of leather shoes. The poster transforms these otherwise dry economic statistics into a surprisingly stylish piece of modern graphic design. Sweeping fields of cyan, pink, yellow, and green resemble flowing layers of fabric, while a purple high-heeled shoe playfully represents the footwear industry. Its colorful abstraction reflects the increasingly modern visual language appearing in Soviet design during the 1960s and ’70s, moving away from the more rigid Socialist Realist imagery of earlier decades. Printed entirely in Ukrainian, the poster was created specifically for audiences in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic while promoting the broader economic goals of the USSR’s Ninth Five-Year Plan (1971–1975). The plan placed increased emphasis on producing clothing, household products, and other consumer goods in an effort to improve everyday living standards. Today, the poster offers a fascinating intersection of fashion, graphic design, and Soviet economic propaganda. Size: 22.0" x 15.75" Condition: Very Good, Age-appropriate wear, fading and toning. Light border wear. Please use the photo zoom feature to get a better understanding of overall condition. *Additional photos available upon request.
