Workplace Safety, Soviet Propaganda

A masterwork of late Soviet graphic design, this workplace safety poster transforms a mundane industrial warning into a striking visual statement. Produced by Stroyizdat, the USSR's official construction publisher, the design cleverly integrates its message into the very hazard it warns against: the Russian text 'Do not lift small-piece cargo without packaging!' appears to tumble from an improperly secured crane load of construction materials. The salmon-orange background provides a warm counterpoint to the cool grays and blacks of the rendered steel beams and rebar. The constructivist-influenced typography gives dimensional weight to each letter, making the words themselves appear as heavy as the cargo they describe. The exclamation point lands at the bottom of the composition, a final emphatic warning. Produced in Tula with a print run of 30,000 copies, this poster represents the continuation of Soviet industrial graphic traditions even as perestroika transformed the nation around it. A compelling example of applied design where form and function achieve perfect synthesis. Size: 23.0" x 17.0" Artist: I.A. Grishin Condition: Very Good, Age-appropriate wear, fading and toning.
