Southern Living® 'Stellar Ruby' Magnolia Tree

Fragrant Ruby Blooms with Year-Round Interest The Southern Living® ‘Stellar Ruby’ Magnolia is a fragrant, evergreen shrub that brings bold color to any landscape. Unlike larger magnolia varieties, this compact hybrid produces ruby-pink, banana-scented blooms beginning in late spring and continuing intermittently into early fall. Each flower stands out beautifully against the plant’s dense, glossy green foliage. Its naturally columnar shape makes it a smart choice for narrow spaces, screening, or as a low-maintenance vertical accent. Whether you're creating a hedge, softening a fence line, or anchoring a garden border, the Stellar Ruby brings a polished and lush look to your garden. This variety is tough, too. It tolerates heat, drought, and even salt while resisting common pests and diseases. Plus, with year-round evergreen foliage and a longer-than-usual bloom season, it offers year-round interest you can enjoy again and again. Easy to grow and elegant in every season, the Stellar Ruby is a showstopper for any warm-climate garden that wants beauty without the fuss. Grow this unique magnolia variety today! Planting & Care Planting: Choose a spot with full sun to part shade and well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and plant so the top of the root ball is slightly above ground level. Backfill, water thoroughly, and mulch to conserve moisture. Watering: Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season. Once established, the Stellar Ruby is drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering in prolonged dry spells. Fertilizing: Feed yearly in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to encourage growth and flowering. Pest Control: If you see any pests, use a stream of water to remove them. Pruning: Minimal pruning needed.
