Built-in AI processing enables enhanced subject recognition and deep learning-based Auto Tracing White Balance (ATW), helping you shoot with confidence. Open Gate and other image scan modes The FX5 offers full-frame Open Gate recording—a first in the Cinema Line FX series. With 5K up to 120fps (FF 3:2)5, 4K up to 240fps (FF crop) and more, it gives you the freedom to adjust framing, speed and workflow to realize even the most ambitious vision. Internal X-OCN compressed RAW video recording Capture 16-bit scene-linear X-OCN internally eliminating the need for an external RAW data recorder. With LT, C1 and C2 codecs, you can balance image quality, file size and RAW workflow flexibility to suit the production. Three Base ISO settings for effective noise control in any environment Three Base ISO settings—a standard ISO 800, a mid-sensitivity ISO 4000, and a high-sensitivity ISO 12800 for low light—are available to match your shooting environment. Capture clean shadows and wide latitude across varied lighting conditions, for consistently stunning clarity. 15+ stops of latitude for low-noise shadow detail Wide latitude helps capture highlight and shadow detail with smooth, natural gradation. Low shadow noise preserves clarity, texture and atmosphere, letting you push your creative grading choices further. Dual Gain Shooting debuts in the Cinema Line FX camera series Dual Gain Shooting maximizes latitude while reducing noise to enhance shadow details. Making full use of the sensor’s capability, it delivers smooth, natural gradients for greater editing flexibility. High-frame-rate capture, including 5K at up to 120fps High frame rates open up striking slow-motion possibilities. The FX5 records up to 5K at 120fps and 4K at 240fps, giving creators the power to capture fast-paced action with impressive detail and clarity—ideal for everything from cinematic storytelling to sharp sports and documentary footage. Precise, reliable AF and tracking with AI-based subject recognition With built-in AI processing, the BIONZ XR2 engine accurately recognizes human, animal and bird eyes (Real-time Eye AF). Fast Hybrid AF uses up to 759 points to ensure accurate focus and tracking that keeps up with quick-moving subjects, even in dark scenes and when shooting with a shallow depth of field. Built-in de-squeeze for anamorphic shooting Built-in de-squeeze support makes anamorphic shooting easier on set. With 1.3x, 1.5x, 1.6x, 1.8x and 2.0x settings, the FX5 works smoothly with a wide range of anamorphic lenses. Deep learning-based illumination estimation Deep-learning-based illumination estimation achieves unprecedented Auto Tracing White Balance (ATW) accuracy, even in challenging scenes. It delivers accurate colour reproduction even under lighting conditions that previously tended to cause colour cast. S-Cinetone™ for a refined cinematic look S-Cinetone brings Sony cinema colour science to the FX5, delivering natural skin tones, smooth gradation and a polished look straight out of camera. Wide-gamut colour for more grading control With colour gamuts exceeding both BT.2020 and DCI-P3, S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine retain broad colour information for more precise grading and easier colour matching with VENICE 2 in multi-camera shoots. Three S-Log3 modes for flexible workflows From cinematic shoots to run-and-gun, choose Cine EI, Cine EI Quick or Flexible ISO to capture imagery with maximum latitude. You can also import up to 16 user LUTs allowing you to easily monitor the intended look in real-time. 5-axis stabilization for steadier handheld shooting A precision stabilization unit and gyro sensors combine to provide optical 5-axis in-body stabilization. An enhanced stabilization unit expands the roll-direction compensation range by up to 2x, effectively reducing handheld roll shake. The result is a camera that’s ideal for handheld shooting. Dynamic active Mode adds extra electronic support, and stabilization data can also be used in post-production. Lightweight, compact design for agility on set The compact flattop body and stable grip are built for comfortable handheld work. Paired with Sony’s compact lenses, the FX5 becomes a mobile system for flexible shooting with gimbals, in tight spaces and more. High-quality 96 kHz / 32bit float audio recording The XLR handle unit supports two XLR/TRS inputs, a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack and up to 96 kHz / 32bit float audio. With up to 4 channels of top-quality audio recording, it helps you capture cleaner sound without slowing down the shoot. BIG6 (HOME) screen for faster on-set control Inherited directly from Sony’s high-end CineAlta cameras, the BIG6 (HOME) screen displays six essential settings together: frame rate, EI/ISO/Gain, shutter, iris, LUT and white balance. Touch operation, the multi-function dial and Fixed/Variable frame-rate control help you work quickly and efficiently. Optional OLED viewfinder DVF-EL1 for easier outdoor monitoring Add the optional OLED viewfinder for enhanced monitoring in bright locations. It features a 0.58-type OLED panel with approx. 7.07 million dots, DCI-P3 equivalent colour gamut, and 10-bit display for superb colour and detail. Monitoring support for precise shooting Exposure and focus tools, including Waveform Monitor, Histogram, False Colour and Focus Map, support faster judgments on set. They help you manage highlights, shadows, skin tones and critical focus with confidence. Clear Image Zoom for smoother, more intuitive framing Clear Image Zoom adds a [Smooth Priority] mode that enables seamless zoom from the optical wide end up to 2x digital zoom. [Optical Zoom Priority] is a zoom mode that prioritizes image quality. After the optical zoom reaches its telephoto end, Clear Image Zoom takes over.
