Fermented Cod Liver Oil Available in 8oz Known Health Benefits Omega-3 Fatty Acids: FCLO is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, including EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which are essential for brain health, cardiovascular function, and reducing inflammation. Vitamin A: FCLO is a good source of vitamin A, which supports vision, immune function, and healthy skin. Vitamin D: FCLO contains vitamin D, which is crucial for bone health, immune system support, and maintaining overall well-being. Because it is naturally occurring, it contains Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol – improves metabolism), and Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol – slows metabolism). Having both types of Vitamin D allow the thyroid to choose which activity it needs to accommodate circumstances. Nutrient Synergy: Deficiencies in Vitamin A are linked to high calcium relative to potassium in the body. This deficiency can contribute to allergic symptoms (dry skin, flaky skin, blackheads), vision loss, night blindness, dry eye, impaired immunity, and poor wound healing. Vitamin D deficiency is associated with low tissue calcium and imbalances in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, and potassium. This is why Vitamin D deficiency is linked to poor metabolic function, hypothyroidism, kidney disease, heart problems, decreased immunity, pH imbalances, etc. Potential Concerns: Blood Thinners: Dogs that are taking blood-thinning medications should consult a veterinarian before using FCLO, as omega-3 fatty acids may have a mild blood-thinning effect.   Quality and Purity: It is important to ensure the quality and purity of FCLO products to avoid potential contaminants, such as heavy metals or pollutants. This is why we picked this brand… it’s the cleanest I know of.   Allergies: In very rare cases, some dogs are allergic to fish. Of course, in that case this could cause issues. However, it is unlikely that this product would cause an issue because DNA (protein which the body can negative respond to) does not appear in oils or extracts. So there wouldn’t be anything for the body to respond to. Suggested Use Dosage: Dosages can vary depending on the weight and condition of the dog. If the owner has gotten a Vitamin D blood test on their dog and identified a deficiency, their vet should be able to provide them with a specific amount of Vitamin D (in iu’s) to give every day. You can calculate from there. If a dog has been diagnosed with Vitamin D toxicity they should not use FCLO. Because FCLO is not a pharmaceutical product, it is natural, the Vitamin D levels will vary with each batch. This is why there’s no specific Vitamin D content listed on the product. However, on average it will contain 500iu per tsp (5ml). (This is equal to 12.5mcg (500 * 0.025 = 12.5)).   AAFCO recommends a minimum of 125iu per 1,000kals per day for dogs. If the dog is consuming a food that contains Vitamin D, you can assume you should provide only <10-15% of the suggested daily dose of Vitamin D for that dog. If consuming a food that does not contain Vitamin D (like those listed above), you would recommend 25iu/day per 10lbs of body weight which is equal to a minimum of 5 single drops of FCLO. The AAFCO OP shows that toxicity is not expected until you are providing 6x more than the minimum suggested daily intake. This would be equal to 150 drops (1.5tsp) of FCLO.   The NRC (which is better than AAFCO) suggests 2tsp/10lbs of body weight per day which is much higher. In summary… you can recommend quite a bit of this product without worrying too much about toxicity unless the pet is already toxic in Vitamin D, or unless they’re already consuming other sources of it.   Again, you can determine whether that’s too much or too little based on any other sources of Vitamin D in the food, the amount of time the dog normally spends in the sun, and their current Vitamin D blood status (if known).   Administration: You can put FCLO directly in the food or in a “treat” such as an enrichment mat, silicone mold, or other blend. Storage: Store FCLO in a cool, dark place. Regular Use: Consistent, long-term use of FCLO will provide the best results.   Ingredients: Raw, fermented cod liver oil Other ingredients: Distilled Water, Alcohol for extraction
