Soda Ash (Na2CO3), also known as sodium carbonate, washing soda, and soda crystals, is a moderately strong alkali. It is used in the scouring of cellulose fibers prior to mordanting and to sharpen indigo vats by increasing the pH. It can also be used to shift an immersion dyebath alkaline, changing the color. The Earthues soda ash is Technical Grade.
