Smith River - Winter Fly Box

Fish the Smith like you know it — because now you do.   The Smith River Winter Fly Box is hand-curated specifically for the conditions, hatches, and trout behavior you'll encounter on the Smith from December through March. Winter access on the Smith is extremely limited due to its remote character. For those who manage it, midge fishing in the pools can produce large, lightly pressured trout.   This box is built around the Smith's winter hatch calendar — midges. Every fly was chosen with nymphing deeper pools with small midge patterns in mind, giving you exactly what you need to match what the fish are eating at this time of year.   What's in the box: 36 flies total — 18 unique patterns, 2 of each — covering midge larvae, zebra midges, small soft hackles, and scuds. No filler. No patterns that don't belong on this river in this season.   Pro tip from the water: Winter on the Smith is for the truly adventurous. Fish the deep canyon pools — these fish have barely seen a fly all winter and a good drift can produce something special.   Whether you're making your first trip to the Smith or you fish it every season, this box gives you a proven starting lineup so you can spend more time fishing and less time digging through bins at the fly shop.   Includes a quality waterproof fly box. All flies are hand-tied to Bozeman FlyWorks standards — the same quality we'd put on our own lines.
