Small Swallow Signet Ring

Small Swallow Signet Ring Wear this loyal bird as a reminder of both Home and Heaven, and to mark the milestones in your life. The Swallow is a traditional image used in Sailor tattoos to show off one's sailing experience. According to legend and lore, if a Sailor has sailed over 5,000 nautical miles on the high seas, he would be deemed to have earned the right to wear a Swallow tattoo. For for 10,000 nautical miles, you earned a second Swallow. Since swallows return to nest in the same location year after year, the birds symbolize a guarantee that the sailor safely returns home. And if the poor soul were to be struck by tragedy and die or drown at sea, the Swallows would carry off his soul to Heaven. The history of Signet rings goes back thousands of years to Ancient Mesopotamia and Rome, where the carved ring acted as a seal, offering you a method of authenticity used in place of a handwritten signature. Those who wore a signet bore the mark of authority. It conveyed status and to this day a signet ring still conveys a level of uniqueness. The ring face measures approximately 1/2 x 1/4 inch.  Available in Solid Brass + Sterling Silver (Solid Gold available upon request)
