Therefore, it's crucial to follow a specific nutrient guideline to ensure proper health. However, **individual needs may vary**, and these should be tailored by a healthcare provider based on specific circumstances, including the type of surgery performed and the patient's health status. Calcium Recommended Intake:  Generally, the recommendation is 1200-1500 mg of elemental calcium per day, divided into doses of 500-600 mg each to maximize absorption. Forms:  Calcium citrate is often recommended for bariatric patients as it doesn't require stomach acid for absorption, making it more suitable post-surgery. Magnesium Recommended Intake:  The typical recommendation is 400-800 mg per day. Importance:  Magnesium works closely with calcium and is important for bone health, muscle function, and overall metabolism. B Vitamins Vitamin B1 (Thiamine):  At least 12 mg per day, but may be higher depending on the individual's condition. Vitamin B12:  Recommendations can range from 350-1000 mcg per day, with some patients requiring injections or sublingual forms for better absorption. Folic Acid:  About 400-800 mcg per day is typically advised. Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine):  A dosage of 1.5-2.0 mg per day is commonly recommended. Other Essential Minerals Iron:  45-60 mg per day, but this can vary based on iron levels and anemia status. Women may need more, especially if menstruating. Zinc:  8-22 mg per day, as zinc absorption can be impaired post-surgery. Copper:  Typically 0.5-1.5 mg per day, but should be balanced with zinc intake to prevent deficiency. Additional Considerations Protein:  An increased protein intake is often necessary post-bariatric surgery to maintain muscle mass. The amount can vary from 60 to 100 grams per day based on individual needs. Vitamin D:  At least 3000 IU per day to maintain bone health and calcium absorption. Multivitamin:  A complete multivitamin specifically designed for bariatric patients is often recommended to cover general micronutrient needs.    Monitoring and Consultation It’s crucial for bariatric patients to have regular follow-up appointments with their healthcare provider to monitor nutrient levels and adjust supplements as needed. Blood tests are typically used to monitor levels of vitamins and minerals in the body to ensure that patients are not developing deficiencies. Important Note The above information provides general guidelines and should not replace professional medical advice.  Always consult with a registered dietitian or a bariatric specialist  to receive personalized recommendations and to adjust your diet and supplements according to your specific needs and health status.
